"What brings 'connect' between people?"

What brings 'connect' between people? When I asked this question to myself, I reflected on some of my experiences where I have failed to create that 'connect'.  What I felt was; One of the reasons why people don't connect or open up with us is, they feel that the environment doesn’t seem to be 'informal '. The very nature of being 'formal' makes people hesitate during some interactions. It's not that, they are incapable or they are fearful. It's because they need some space to get into the 'flow' of interactions. As leaders it's our responsible to bring that 'change' in environment. Because, quite often we don't know others' state of mind. When I said; informal, it doesn't mean the way we dress or the way we violate certain etiquettes. It only means, the way we talk, the way we engage them, more importantly the way we listen to them; especially to their challenges so that they feel reli...

Engaging ourselves in fun filled act - a better time management makes you a better manager..!

Let me start today's blog by asking some questions: What is that one task which is pending for last two days? How would it look like if you complete that task by this evening? With whom you would like to celebrate the success of achieving that task? These days I am seriously practicing one thing: 'capturing all my tasks and filling them in four quadrants of the time management matrix' and then acting on them. Just wanted to share some of my thoughts..!! Some steps: Every day before you leave office, write your tasks in your note pad Categorize all the tasks as (1) Important / Urgent, (2) Important / Not Urgent, (3) Not important / Urgent and (4) Not important / Not urgent. Create a time matrix and fill the tasks in the relevant quadrants (refer the diagram attached in an excel sheet) Look at the tasks which are in quadrant 1 (Q1), estimate the time taken for each task, if any task consumes less th...

LISTENING CREATES MORE SPACE BETWEEN HUMANS:

Just spend with someone who you think you did not spend some time in recent past. Lend your ear for some time and see the miracle. we should all know this: Listening, not talking, is the gifted and great role, and the imaginative role. And the true listener is much more beloved, magnetic than the talker, and he is more effective, and learns more and does more good. And so try listening. Listen to your wife, your husband, your father, your mother, your children, your friends; to those who love you and those who don't to those who bore you, to your enemies. It will work as a small miracle. And perhaps a great one.

I thought I was giving back, but someone gave back to me, "the inspiration"

It was out of my conscious that, today is X-mass. I don't know about the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the pain he undergone, but has a reason for all, may be a vision to spread love and affection among the people. That's one of the reasons for his existence and the X-mass is being celebrated across the globe on this day. There were many occasions in my life where I got utmost inspiration, on March 22, 2012, I have got an opportunity to meet Sir Dr. Abdul Kalam in Hyderabad. I spent at least an hour in his vibrant space. It's a great experience being in his presence. I felt that, I would carry this inspiration all the way in my life. Today (December 25, 2012) I had spent some time with a guy called Vikram, I was in Bangalore railway station waiting for intercity express (Bangalore to Ernakulam). I found this guy and chose to talk to him for some time though I left with other two favorite choices (reading and listening to music). I asked him, "where are y...

The place where I found 'tradition' again and again, The Indian Coffee House

Image
Finding a restaurant in unfamiliar places is like finding an oasis in a desert. I had visited Alleppey many times but was searching for a nice restaurant and missed out my very favorite ‘Indian Coffee House’. This is my fourth visit to alleppey, I didn’t find in last three visits but yesterday I did. It happened suddenly, the restaurant is located in a busy circle and its just opposite to one of our training centers, where I was supposed to go. I entered in the restaurant and without looking out for the menu, I ordered Dosa, the unique experience of having dosa with a combination of a single vada (I had similar experience in Trivandrum) was served by a nice waiter with a humble smile. I couldn’t stop my temptation to order for a coffee. For the next two days I visited almost six times, sparing time for my tea breaks to spend in the coffee house and the large meals. I was curious to know the history of this restaurant, and made myself to discover the history of In...
